This was more than enough, though, to fill my inventory with well over 20 eggs of varying letters. I was a bit poor from buying my first Gobbie Bag, so I only had 5,000 gil to start with. Getting my initial stock of eggs proved as easy as running around Bastok's town square and preying on all the lowest-priced player bazaars. Buy Low, Sell HighĪs the great moogle giveth, so does he taketh away. Instantly I saw my opportunity, and before you could say "delicious chicken fetus" I was in the egg-broking business. Some players let them go for 100 gil, while others were somewhere over 4,000. Prices for individual eggs varied widely. This wasn't hard, as a little egg economy had already sprung up, with players hoarding and dumping eggs through the personal bazaar system. The moogle yielded new eggs once every hour, so this mainly meant buying from or trading with other players. That was more like it! So, I set about collecting eggs to put toward my prizes. This was slightly more difficult to put together, but the reward was a Happy Egg, a super-weak throwing weapon (good for only one use!) that had the redeeming trait of giving your character an extra vitality point. The next tier of prizes was gained by scoring a straight, meaning the first letter of your name and then the seven letters that follow it. Luckily, there were greater rewards to be had. Thousands of loiterers were arrested that day. I would have gotten more use out of chocobo beaks, or entrails, or something. These were good for a free chocobo ride, at least in theory: I was still level 19, one level below the limit for rides. What a useful letter.) The idea, players slowly figured out, was to collect the first three letters of one's name, and then submit those eggs to the moogle for a prize. A few days before the Easter holiday, moogles appeared in the major thoroughfares of Bastok, Windurst and San "damn that apostrophe" d'Oria, and talking to them resulted in obtaining one of 26 lettered eggs. However, it was Easter's event that got me unexpectedly entangled in the seamy, smarmy business of selling eggs. Last year, the Halloween festivities allowed players to obtain distinctive-looking pumpkin masks, while Christmas saw the appearance of. For every major real-world holiday, you can expect an appropriate little celebration in Vana'diel. One of the nice little features of Final Fantasy XI is its seasonal events.
